While I wish the answer could be a simple “Halloween is a Timbergrove tradition; no way will it be cancelled!” the unfortunate reality is that Halloween in 2020 will look a little different than in years past. The haunted house, carnival games and the traditional trick-or treat parade do not lend themselves to social distancing and therefore will not take place this year. But fear not! We have come up with some ideas to keep the Timbergrove Halloween tradition going safely and responsibly until we can all be together again in 2021.
Halloween Decorating Contest
Break out your bats and cats and friendly ghosts! We are adding a Halloween decorating contest to the 2020 festivities to encourage all neighbors to add a little spooky fun to their front yards this year. Judging will take place at 6:30 pm on Thursday, October 29th , and prizes will be awarded for best door, best window, best yard and best overall. Winners will be featured in the November TMNA newsletter.
Trick or Treating
Halloween in Timbergrove has traditionally been celebrated on October 31st and draws families from many surrounding neighborhoods. In an effort to keep the crowds smaller this year, we are encouraging Timbergrove residents to trick or treat on Friday, October 30th . Neighbors who choose to hand out candy are asked to set up socially distant trick-or-treating zones where neighborhood families can safely trick-or-treat between 6:00 and 8:00 pm that evening. For example, you might set up a table at the end of your driveway with prepackaged treats, or you might get together with a group of neighbors to coordinate the trick-or-treating on your block. Participation is completely voluntary and will likely look different for every family. Whatever you choose to do, please be smart and safe. Bring out the hand sanitizer, mask up, and spread out!
Virtual Costume Contest
Although we can’t all gather together in the cul-de-sac on Glenn Oaks, we still want to see your costumes! Post a photo to Instagram or Facebook with the hashtag #TMNAHalloween before midnight on October 30th . Winners will be announced on the TMNA Facebook page the next day and will be featured in the November TMNA newsletter.
